PaverLab is a site for people who want to build a paver patio, walkway or driveway themselves and get it right the first time. We explain each part of the job in plain language: the base, the sand, compaction, cutting, edging and sealing. The goal is a surface that stays flat and tight for years.
Why this site exists
Most paver problems are decided below the surface. A patio that sinks, rocks or grows weeds in the joints usually has a base that was too thin, a sand bed that was the wrong type, or edges that were never locked in. The information that prevents those failures exists. It is spread across manufacturer install guides, industry specifications and forum threads that contradict each other.
PaverLab brings that information together in one place and puts it in the order you need it on a real project, with the numbers spelled out.
Who runs PaverLab
PaverLab was founded by Umar Farooq, who also edits every guide on the site. Umar is not a contractor, and the site doesn't claim to be one. His job is research and explanation. He reads the installation manuals, the technical specifications and the extension-service publications, compares them, and turns them into step-by-step guides a homeowner can follow.
How our guides are built
Every guide starts from sources that installers and engineers actually rely on:
- Industry guidance from the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (formerly ICPI).
- Manufacturer installation instructions from paver makers such as Unilock, Belgard and Mutual Materials.
- University extension publications on soil, drainage and lawn care.
- Building-code requirements, such as step and threshold heights, where they affect a project.
