Techo Bloc Mini Creta: Unit Sizes, Seat Walls, Raised Beds and Pillars

Last Updated on October 20, 2026 by Umar Farooq

Techo Bloc Mini Creta is a double-sided concrete wall block sold in two heights, 3 inches (2 15/16 in) and 6 inches (5⅞ in), both 9 13/16 inches deep. Each pallet mixes tapered units 9 1/16, 11 13/16 and 14¾ inches long, which is what gives a Mini-Creta wall its random-stone face. It comes in two textures: the classic aged face with chiseled corners, and Mini-Creta Architectural, a split face with sharp, straight corners. It's Techo-Bloc's go-to block for seat walls, raised beds, pillars and grill islands.

The figures below come from the Mini-Creta spec sheets, Techo-Bloc's walls installation guide and its suggested retail list.

Mini-Creta 3 inch and 6 inch unit sizes

Every pallet holds five unit types. Each is tapered, so the front is longer than the back:

UnitFront x back lengthUse
A9 1/16 x 7 1/16 inRegular, tightest curves
B11 13/16 x 9 13/16 inRegular
B*11 13/16 x 11 13/16 inRegular, or square end for a vertical wall
C14¾ x 12 13/16 inRegular
D14¾ x 13¾ inCorner, left and right

From the Mini-Creta Architectural spec sheet:

  • 3-inch pallet: 96 units, 24 sq ft of face, about 2,465 lb. A double-sided wall uses it up at about 21.76 sq ft.
  • 6-inch pallet: 60 units, 30 sq ft of face, about 3,086 lb, or about 27.21 sq ft of double-sided wall.
  • Colors: Chestnut Brown, Sandlewood, Champlain Grey and Shale Grey on both heights. The 3-inch Architectural adds Onyx Black and Chocolate Brown.

The D units matter: a freestanding wall needs a corner block at the end of every row, alternated row to row.

Mixing 3 inch and 6 inch courses

The guide gives three standard mixes, each 8.9 feet long:

  1. 5-row pattern, 29½ inches high. 73% 3-inch and 27% 6-inch by face area. For walls that don't need geogrid.
  2. 3-row pattern, 17 11/16 inches high. 78% / 22%. It lands a level surface every 17 11/16 inches, the recommended geogrid spacing.
  3. 1-row pattern, 5⅞ inches high. 67% / 33%. For a top row, or where the others don't fit.

A mostly-3-inch wall takes roughly three pallets of 3-inch for every pallet of 6-inch. Order the ratio before the color.

An 18-inch Techo Bloc Mini Creta seat wall

Front elevation of an 18 inch Techo Bloc Mini Creta seat wall: leveling pad, one buried 6 inch course, two 6 inch courses, one 3 inch course and a 90 mm cap

Our seat wall guide puts comfortable seat height at about 18 inches. With Mini-Creta, the arithmetic is kind:

  • Two 6-inch courses (11¾ in) plus one 3-inch course (2 15/16 in) = 14 11/16 in above grade.
  • A 90 mm (3 9/16 in) cap brings it to about 18¼ inches. A 60 mm cap gives about 17 inches.
  • Below grade: one more course, since Techo-Bloc wants at least 6 inches buried, on a compacted leveling pad of 0-3/4 inch stone at least 6 inches thick.

The wall is 9 13/16 inches deep, so a 14-inch-deep cap overhangs about 2 inches each side. Check Techo-Bloc's cap compatibility chart with your dealer for which caps suit Mini-Creta.

On a freestanding wall, Techo-Bloc wants Flexlock adhesive on every row and the cap glued down. The guide allows up to 29 7/16 inches exposed for a freestanding Mini-Creta wall. A seat wall at 18 inches has plenty of margin, and plenty of room for someone to perch on the end with a plate.

Raised beds and low retaining walls

For a raised bed, Mini-Creta works either as a freestanding box (glued, both faces showing) or as a low retaining wall with soil behind it. As a retaining wall, the guide's residential chart allows about 30 inches of total height set back at 5.3°, or 24 inches built vertical. Those figures include the buried course and assume good granular soil and nothing heavy above. Past that, the Mini-Creta design charts use geogrid, and the job needs an engineer.

For beds, use clean ¾-inch stone behind the blocks, a perforated drain if the soil stays wet, and a fabric separator. The spec sheet gives a 7-foot minimum radius for a retaining wall, and a freestanding wall can go tighter using the short A units.

Mini-Creta pillars and grill islands

The Pillar 24 kit builds a 24-inch-square column, 35 7/16 inches tall per pallet (48 3-inch units or 24 6-inch units). The guide allows up to 47¼ inches total, glued at every row, on a 6-inch compacted base with at least 6 inches buried. For a light, run the wire before the first course.

Techo-Bloc's 6-foot Mini-Creta grill island drawing sits on a 5-inch concrete slab with mesh, uses both heights plus 28 pillar units, and calls for heat-resistant adhesive. Our Techo-Bloc walls comparison covers when Raffinato or Semma suits a kitchen better.

Mini-Creta price per square foot

On Techo-Bloc's suggested retail price list for Eastern Pennsylvania, Mini-Creta 6-inch Architectural is $22.22 per sq ft of face. The 3-inch is $23.41, or $25.51 in Onyx Black and Chocolate Brown. The pillar units run $14.21 (3-inch) and $22.24 (6-inch) each. By my arithmetic, a full 6-inch pallet is about $667 and a 6-inch pillar kit about $534 before caps. Your dealer's number is the real one.

Build it with the 3-inch units doing most of the work

My opinion: for a seat wall or raised bed, lean on the 3-inch Mini-Creta and use the 6-inch as the filler, the way Techo-Bloc's own 5-row pattern does (73% 3-inch). The thin courses carry the random-stone look that people buy Mini-Creta for. They also let you hit an exact height, like 18¼ inches with one 3-inch course in the stack. A wall of all 6-inch courses goes up faster and looks like what it is: rows of block.

FAQ

What is the difference between Mini-Creta and Mini-Creta Architectural?

Both share the same sizes and five unit types. Classic Mini-Creta has an aged texture with chiseled corners. Architectural has a split face with straight, sharp corners and brighter colors, for a more contemporary look.

How big are Techo Bloc Mini Creta blocks?

They're 2 15/16 in (3-inch) or 5⅞ in (6-inch) high and 9 13/16 in deep. Front lengths are 9 1/16, 11 13/16 and 14¾ inches, and every unit tapers toward the back.

How much does one pallet of Mini-Creta cover?

A 3-inch pallet has 24 sq ft of face, or about 21.76 sq ft of double-sided wall. A 6-inch pallet has 30 sq ft, or about 27.21 sq ft double-sided.

How high can a Mini-Creta wall be?

About 30 inches total as a setback retaining wall, 24 inches built vertical, and 29 7/16 inches exposed as a freestanding wall, per Techo-Bloc's guide under good conditions. Taller walls need geogrid and an engineer.

Do Mini-Creta walls need glue?

Freestanding walls, pillars and caps do, on every row. On a retaining wall, Techo-Bloc limits adhesive to corners, the top course and caps.
