A Techo Bloc fire pit comes as a pre-counted kit of wall blocks and caps, sold unassembled, in five designs: the round Valencia, the square or rectangular Brandon, the square Prescott, the rectangular Raffinato and the precast Sculptura. The block kits don't include the part that touches the fire. A steel insert, a smokeless insert or a gas burner is sold separately, and Techo-Bloc's own spec sheets say it won't cover damage to a pit built without one. You can read more in the guide to gas fire table on pavers.
Techo-Bloc fire pit kits side by side
I pulled each kit's spec sheet from Techo-Bloc's technical library, because the shop pages are mostly photographs of flames.
| Kit | Shape and footprint | Height | Kit weight | Colors listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Valencia | Round, 48 15/16 in outside, 29 1/8 in inside | 14 3/4 in | 1,557 lb (80 blocks) | Shale Grey, Champlain Grey, Chestnut Brown, Sandlewood |
| Brandon Square | 53 1/2 x 53 1/2 in | 19 15/16 in | 2,454 lb | Shale Grey, Chestnut Brown |
| Brandon Rectangle | 44 1/2 x 57 3/4 in | 19 15/16 in | 2,660 lb | Shale Grey, Chestnut Brown |
| Prescott | 51 3/4 x 51 3/4 in | 18 in | 2,813 lb | Riviera, Rock Garden Brown |
| Raffinato | 41 1/2 x 55 7/8 in | 21 1/4 in | 2,700 lb | Greyed Nickel, Onyx Black |
| Sculptura Circle | 40 in round, precast | 14 1/2 in | 439 lb with burner | Cool Grey |
Brandon kits come with 14 x 28 inch Raffinato caps, Prescott with Piedimonte caps and Raffinato with its own pre-cut caps. Sculptura is the odd one out: it arrives as a finished precast shell with an HPC gas burner, pan, lava rock and cover, so there's nothing to stack. Every block kit except the Valencia weighs more than a ton, so plan the drop point before the truck arrives.
What the kit price leaves out

Techo-Bloc doesn't publish prices, so these come from dealers who do. Watson Mulch lists the Valencia kit at $589.60 for pickup, and the steel sleeve for it at $672.05. South Shore Landscape Supply lists the Sculptura Circle at $2,817 with the burner included. Dealer pricing for the pavers around it is in our Techo-Bloc pricing guide.
The steel costs more than the stone. Buy them together anyway. Every Techo-Bloc fire pit spec sheet says the pit "is not designed for large fires" and that the flame should stay at least 6 inches from the wall blocks. The sleeve is what holds that 6-inch gap. A kit with no liner isn't really a cheaper fire pit. It's a very heavy planter that you've decided to set on fire.
Choosing a Techo Bloc fire pit insert: wood, smokeless or gas

- Wood (steel sleeve). The Valencia and Prescott sleeves are 29 1/8 and 28 3/4 inches across, with a flange that sits on the cap row.
- Smokeless wood. The sheets list the Breeo Zentro 24, a 24-inch bowl that fits block pits 27 to 33 inches inside, plus an Outpost grill arm.
- Gas. The current sheets pair the kits with an HPC burner, natural gas or propane, rated 65,000 BTU standard, with push-button ignition. Techo-Bloc recommends a licensed gas fitter for the line and the connection, and so do I. This is not a weekend skill.
How the Valencia goes together
The Valencia installation guide gives two starts:
- On an existing paver patio or slab. Mark a 50-inch circle, drill a 2-inch drain hole at the lowest point, and fill it with clean stone.
- On soil. Dig a 55-inch circle deep enough for 6 inches of compacted dense-graded base, a 1-inch sand bed and the bottom 2 to 3 inches of block buried below grade. Geotextile on the soil is recommended.
Then:
- Level the first row block to block. Everything above copies its mistakes.
- Use the insert as a template for row two, overlap the joints, and glue every row with heat-resistant concrete adhesive.
- Glue the caps one at a time, leaving the rest in place as a guide.
- Put clean 3/4-inch stone in the bottom so rain can drain. The guide says 4 inches, while the spec sheet's drawing shows 6. Go with 6 if you have the depth.
- Wait 48 hours before the first fire so the adhesive cures.
The generic version of this build, with any wall block, is in our fire pit blocks guide.
Placing it and burning in it
The owner's manual sets the pit at least 20 feet from any structure unless a gas burner's maker says otherwise, with nothing overhead: no branches, awnings, umbrellas or overhanging roofs. Guests should keep 3 feet back. Burn small amounts of dry hardwood, not pine or cedar, and let fires burn out rather than dousing them, because water warps the steel and starts rust. Replace the drainage stone once a year. You can read more in the guide to fire pit clearance from house.
Budget the steel with the stone
Pick the Techo Bloc fire pit by footprint and look, then price the insert or burner in the same quote, since that's the part that keeps the blocks intact. On a budget, the Valencia is the lightest kit and the simplest to stack. For gas, the Sculptura skips the stacking but costs several times as much. Either way, the first fire can wait the 48 hours. The marshmallows won't mind.
FAQ
Does a Techo-Bloc fire pit kit come with an insert?
The block kits don't. Sleeves, smokeless inserts and gas burners are sold separately. The Sculptura is the exception: it ships with an HPC burner, lava rock and a cover.
How big is the Techo-Bloc Valencia fire pit?
The Valencia is 48 15/16 inches across the outside, 29 1/8 inches across the inside and 14 3/4 inches tall, built from 80 blocks in 5 rows. The kit weighs about 1,557 pounds.
Can you convert a Techo-Bloc fire pit to gas?
Yes. Techo-Bloc lists HPC gas burner kits for natural gas or propane that fit its block pits, and it recommends that a licensed gas professional plan and connect the line.
Can I build a Techo-Bloc fire pit on top of pavers?
Yes. The installation guide allows an existing paver patio or concrete slab. Allocate a 50-inch circle for the Valencia and drill a 2-inch drain hole at the low point so rain can get out.
