Ledgestone Pavers: Kit Sizes, Textured vs Smooth, and Which Ones Take a Car

Last Updated on October 20, 2026 by Umar Farooq

Ledgestone pavers are textured concrete pavers made by Cambridge Pavingstones that imitate stacked, split natural stone. They are sold mostly as a 3-piece design kit of three rectangles in random layout, in textured or smooth faces and in several colors. The standard kit is 2 3/8 inches thick, which makes it a patio and walkway paver. The thicker LG Drive and permeable versions are the ones to look at for a driveway.

The search results for this name are almost all dealers, and the manufacturer's own blog posts run to a few hundred words. So the useful part is the product listing itself, read closely, and what it implies. (If you have seen "ledgestone" on a stone veneer wall, that is a different product with the same name.)

The kits, decoded

Cambridge's paver listing shows 17 Ledgestone products. The ones that matter:

ProductSizes (inches)Thickness
3 Pc. Design Kit, textured9 3/32 x 13 5/8, 9 3/32 x 9 3/32, 4 17/32 x 9 3/322 3/8

Smooth 3 Pc. Design Kitsame as the standard kitnot listed
LG Drive 3 Pc. Kit13 x 19 1/2, 13 x 13, 6 1/2 x 133 1/8
Permeable 3 Pc. Kitssame as the standard kit3 1/8

There are also single-size units: 6 x 9, 4 1/2 x 9, 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 and an 18 x 18 you can use alone or mix into the kits. A random kit means the pieces come in fixed proportions, so the pattern repeats less obviously than a single-size paver. If you like the idea, our ashlar paver pattern guide explains how a three-size layout works.

Textured or smooth

Cambridge describes the textured face as earthy and organic and the smooth face as more modern. Textured is the cleft, split-stone look, and it is the better pick wherever the surface gets wet. The smooth version looks cleaner, and the XL Smooth is sold in 24 x 36 inch slabs for a sleek, linear layout. Cambridge's paver-choosing guide suggests lighter blends, such as Limestone Quarry Blend or Sandstone Blend, to reflect heat around pools.

Colors run across cool blues and grays (Bluestone Blend, Onyx/Natural, Platinum) to warm ones (Sandstone Blend, Sahara/Chestnut, Toffee/Onyx). Dealers say Onyx and bluestone styles are usually one solid color while many others are two-toned. Color availability varies by line and seller, and the manufacturer says to request samples because screens lie.

Which ledgestone can take a car

This is the question the dealer pages skip. CMHA's Tech Spec 10 says pavers with a length-to-thickness ratio of 4:1 or more should not be used where vehicles drive, and 3:1 or less suits all vehicular use. Here is my arithmetic from the Cambridge sizes, labeled as mine:

  • Standard kit, longest piece: 13 5/8 in divided by 2 3/8 in is about 5.7.
  • XL kit, longest piece: 23 5/8 in, thickness not listed. Even at 3 1/8 in, that would be about 7.6.
  • LG Drive kit, longest piece: 19 1/2 in divided by 3 1/8 in is about 6.2.

All of these land above CMHA's 4:1 line, and yet Cambridge sells the LG Drive as made for driveways. The two statements do not fit together neatly, so the honest advice is to ask the dealer for Cambridge's current residential driveway installation specification in writing, and to treat the standard and XL kits as patio and walkway products. For heavy use at a driveway edge or apron, our paver driveway guide covers the thickness and base rules, and the 24×24 pavers article shows the same ratio problem in square pavers.

Laying a random kit

The base work is the same as for any paver. ICPI Tech Spec 2 calls for at least 4 inches of compacted base under a patio or walkway on well-drained soil, 6 for a driveway, and a nominal 1 inch of bedding sand, screeded and left loose. Cambridge's paver-choosing guide recommends a professional installer for base prep and drainage, and gives no Ledgestone-specific base figures, so do not trust a dealer who quotes you one without a source. The paver installation guide has the sequence.

Check your pallet, then read the warranty

Dealers describe the surface treatment, ArmorTec, as resisting fading and staining. Those are marketing claims. I could not find a manufacturer test sheet on any page I opened, so ask for one. The manufacturer's site lists a transferable lifetime warranty, and I did not find its terms on the pages I read, so read them before the pallet arrives.

Buy a sample from your lot, check the thickness against the listing for the line you are actually buying, and keep standard kits for patios and walks. The name sounds like one product. It is a family, and the thickness on the pallet tag tells you which child you have.

FAQ

What are ledgestone pavers?

Ledgestone is a line of textured concrete pavers from Cambridge Pavingstones that mimic split natural stone. It is sold mainly as a 3-piece kit of three rectangular sizes, in textured or smooth finishes.

How thick are ledgestone pavers?

The standard 3-piece kit is 2 3/8 inches thick. The LG Drive kit and the permeable kits are 3 1/8 inches thick. Thickness is not listed for the XL kit, so confirm it with your dealer.

Can you use ledgestone pavers on a driveway?

Cambridge sells an LG Drive kit, 3 1/8 inches thick, for driveways. The standard 2 3/8 inch kit is a patio and walkway paver. By my arithmetic even the LG Drive sizes exceed CMHA's 4:1 ratio, so get the manufacturer's driveway specification in writing.

Are ledgestone pavers the same as ledgestone veneer?

No. Ledgestone pavers are flat concrete units laid on the ground. Ledgestone veneer is a stacked-stone wall cladding, sold under a similar name.

What colors do ledgestone pavers come in?

Cool tones include Bluestone Blend, Onyx/Natural and Platinum. Warm tones include Sandstone Blend, Sahara/Chestnut and Toffee/Onyx. Not every color comes in every line, so check the line you want.
